Amount in Words Converter (Bangladesh)
Writes a number out in words using lakh and crore grouping so cheques and contracts carry the amount in both figures and text.
Recent
Formula
How the calculation works
The converter reads the number in the South Asian system, where every group after a thousand is two digits rather than three.
It names the groups as thousand, lakh and crore, then joins them into a single readable phrase.
It also returns the same number with Indian-style commas, placing a separator before every pair of digits after the thousand.
Common mistakes
- Grouping with Western commas, which puts the separator in the wrong place and changes the apparent value.
- Mixing up lakh and million in the written words, since a lakh equals one hundred thousand, not one million.
When to use it
- Use it to write the amount in words on a bank cheque so the figure and the text agree exactly.
- Use it to prepare invoices and rent agreements where the sum must appear in both digits and words.
Worked example
The number 1250500 becomes twelve lakh fifty thousand five hundred in words, grouped as 12,50,500.
Common questions
What does lakh-crore grouping mean?
It is the South Asian system where figures are grouped in pairs after the thousand, so 1250500 is written 12,50,500 rather than 1,250,500.
