Coupon vs Discount Calculator
Compares a percentage discount with a flat coupon and shows which saves more.

Formula
How the calculation works
The discount value is the percentage off the price, and the coupon value is the flat amount, but only when the price reaches the coupon's minimum spend.
Comparing the two values and taking the larger one is the point of the tool, because the better option is not always the obvious one.
The final price subtracts the winning value from the price, which is what you actually pay at the till.
Common mistakes
- Adding the two together is the commonest error, because most stores let you use either the percentage or the coupon, not both.
- Ignoring the minimum spend makes a coupon look better than it is, when in fact it only applies above a threshold.
When to use it
- Use it at checkout when a store offers either a percentage off or a flat coupon and you want to pick the bigger saving.
- Do not use it when the two can genuinely be stacked, because then the total saving is the sum rather than the larger of the two.
Worked example
1000 with 10% off versus a 150 coupon: the coupon wins, leaving 850 to pay.
Common questions
Can I use both together?
Usually not, which is why this tool picks the better of the two rather than adding them.
Why is my coupon not counted?
A coupon with a minimum spend only applies when the price reaches that threshold, otherwise it counts as zero.
