Gold Making Charge Calculator
Adds the value of the gold, the jeweller's making charge and VAT to show the full price you pay for an ornament.

Formula
How the calculation works
The calculator multiplies the weight in grams by the day's gold rate to find the value of the metal itself.
It multiplies the same weight by the making charge per gram, which is the jeweller's fee for crafting the piece.
It then applies VAT to the gold value and making charge together to give the final price at the counter.
Common mistakes
- Assuming the quoted gold rate is the whole price and forgetting that the making charge is added separately.
- Ignoring VAT on the making charge, since the tax is applied to the metal value and the crafting fee combined.
When to use it
- Use it before ordering an ornament to see how much the making charge adds on top of the gold rate.
- Use it to compare two jewellers who quote the same gold rate but different making charges per gram.
Worked example
10 g at 12000 taka a gram with a 500 taka making charge and 5% VAT: gold 120000, making 5000, VAT 6250 and total 131250 taka.
Common questions
Is VAT charged on the making charge?
Yes, VAT is applied to the gold value and the making charge added together, so both parts of the price carry the tax.
