Formula
How the calculation works
The cost is built from three parts because they are quoted and paid separately. The package goes to the operator before departure. The airfare is sometimes inside the package and sometimes not, so it is a field of its own. The living money is not paid to anyone in advance -- it is carried and spent there.
The total is given per person and for the whole group, since the question is usually what it costs for a couple or a family. The three parts are also totalled separately, which is what lets you see where the money goes and compare one operator's quote with another's.
Common mistakes
- Assuming the airfare is inside the package. Often it is not, and the difference is the largest line.
- Forgetting the sacrifice, the government fee and health cover, none of which are in this sum.
- Budgeting the per-person figure for the group without multiplying -- or the reverse, multiplying a group figure twice.
When to use it
- Use it to compare operator quotes and to see the true cost for a family, not just one person.
- Add the sacrifice, fees and gifts yourself for a full budget; this covers the package side only.
Worked example
550,000 package, 180,000 airfare and 70,000 living: 800,000 each, 1,600,000 for two.
Common questions
Why is living money separate?
Because it is not paid to the operator: it is spent in cash on the ground. The package and airfare are settled in advance, but the living money has to be carried. Keeping them apart makes the budget easier to match.
Is this figure final?
No. Government fees, the sacrifice, health cover and gifts are not included. Add those to the package for a full budget.
