How the calculation works
Food usually drives a Bangladeshi wedding budget, so the guest count and the per-plate cost are entered first and multiplied to give the single largest line item.
Venue, decoration and miscellaneous costs are then added, because these are fixed charges that do not rise or fall with the number of guests.
Dividing the total by the guest count shows the real cost of each invitation, which is the figure families use when deciding whether to trim the list.
Common mistakes
- Forgetting the venue's service charge and VAT, which many banquet halls add on top of the quoted rent.
- Using a per-plate rate from a smaller event, since caterers charge less per head only when the guest count is high.
When to use it
- Use it early in the planning, when the guest list is still flexible and cutting a hundred names visibly lowers the total.
- Do not treat it as a final quote, since prices for halls and catering change with the season and the menu you finally choose.
Worked example
For 350 guests at 850 taka each, a 120000 taka venue, 45000 decoration and 30000 other costs, food is 297500, total is 492500 and each guest costs 1407.14 taka.
Common questions
Does the total include the bride's dress and jewellery?
No, personal costs like the dress and jewellery are not part of this estimate, so add them in the other cost field if you want them counted.
