Launch (Ferry) Fare Calculator (Bangladesh)
Works out the launch fare for a river trip from the distance, the rate per kilometre and the cabin class, then multiplies it by the number of passengers.

Formula
How the calculation works
River launch fares in Bangladesh are built from distance, not from a flat ticket, so the fare rises steadily the further you travel along the route.
Cabin class is the second factor, because a business or first class berth costs more per kilometre than sitting on the open deck.
Multiplying the per-person fare by the group size gives the amount one person must collect before boarding at the ghat.
Common mistakes
- Using the deck fare for a business booking, which understates the ticket by about a third.
- Forgetting that children and extra luggage are often charged separately at the launch counter.
When to use it
- Use it to check a launch operator's quoted fare before buying tickets for a family trip.
- Do not rely on it for the exact counter price, since operators add terminal tax and seasonal surcharges.
Worked example
For 118 km at 2.35 taka per km in business class, each passenger pays 415.95 taka and three passengers pay 1247.85 taka.
Common questions
Do launch fares vary by deck class?
Yes, the open deck is the cheapest, business costs about one and a half times as much and the first class cabin roughly doubles the deck fare.
