Figures are computed on your device; nothing is sent anywhere.

Formula

currentValue = totalValue * currentPercent / 100; targetValue = totalValue * targetPercent / 100; amountToMove = targetValue - currentValue

How the calculation works

Rebalancing compares where a holding sits today with the weight your plan says it should carry, using the total portfolio value as the base.

The calculator turns both percentages into money, giving the current value and the target value for that single holding.

The difference between them is the amount to move, negative when you must trim and positive when you must add.

Common mistakes

When to use it

Worked example

In a 1250000 portfolio where a holding sits at 72 percent against a 60 percent target, it is worth 900000 but should be 750000, so 150000 must be moved out.

Current value 900,000.00
Target value 750,000.00
Amount to move -150,000.00

Common questions

Does a negative amount to move mean I should sell?

Yes, a negative figure means the holding is overweight and you should shift that amount into the underweight parts of the portfolio.
