How the calculation works
The CNG meter combines a fixed flag-down charge with a per-kilometre rate, so short trips are dominated by the base fare while long trips are driven by distance.
Waiting time is billed separately in Bangladesh, so any stop in a jam or outside a shop adds to the total even though no distance is covered.
Adding the three parts reproduces what the meter shows at the end of the ride, which is why this total is more reliable than a flat negotiated price.
Common mistakes
- Quoting only the distance fare and forgetting the base fare, so the estimate is short by 40 taka before the trip even starts.
- Ignoring waiting charges after asking the driver to stop on the way.
When to use it
- Use it before a long inter-district CNG trip to agree a fair price when the meter is not used.
- Do not use it for rideshare cars, because those services price with surge multipliers this calculator ignores.
Worked example
For 8.5 km at 12 taka per km with a 40 taka base fare and 6 minutes of waiting at 2 taka a minute, the distance fare is 102, waiting 12 and total 154 taka.
Common questions
Is waiting time really charged in a CNG?
Yes, the meter bills waiting minutes separately, so a long stop at a market or a jam adds to the fare even though no distance is covered.
