Formula
How the calculation works
Enter your total yearly income from IT or freelancing services in Taka before any deduction is made.
Enter the exemption threshold in Taka that applies to your income, which is the portion that is allowed free of tax.
The tool subtracts the exemption from your income to get the taxable figure and then applies the tax rate to show the tax payable.
Common mistakes
- Treating the exemption as a refund, when it only reduces the income that is taxed and never adds money back to you.
- Typing the rate as 1.5 instead of 15, which makes the tax look ten times smaller than it really is.
When to use it
- Use it at the start of the year to see how much of your freelance income will actually be taxed, so a large bill does not surprise you later.
- Use it every quarter to update the estimate as your monthly earnings change and to plan the money you set aside for the tax return.
Worked example
With an annual freelance income of 600000 Taka, an exemption of 300000 Taka and a rate of 15 percent, the taxable income is 300000 Taka and the tax payable is 45000 Taka.
Common questions
How does the calculator work out the tax?
It first subtracts the exemption from your yearly income to get the taxable amount, then multiplies that amount by the rate and divides by one hundred to give the tax.
