Aquaculture Feed Cost Calculator
Estimates the feed needed for a fish or shrimp stock from the biomass, the daily feeding rate and the number of days, then prices it.

Formula
How the calculation works
The calculator multiplies the total biomass in the pond by the daily feeding rate expressed as a percentage.
It then multiplies that daily ration by the number of feeding days to give the total kilos of feed required.
Finally it multiplies the feed weight by the price per kilogram to show the total feed bill for the cycle.
Common mistakes
- Using the stocking weight instead of the current biomass, which understates feed because fish grow through the cycle.
- Forgetting that the feeding rate drops as fish grow, so a single high rate applied for the whole period overshoots.
When to use it
- Use it before each production cycle to budget the largest single cost in pond farming, which is feed.
- Use it to compare feed prices from two suppliers once you know how many kilos the whole stock will consume.
Worked example
A 1000 kg stock fed at 3 percent a day for 30 days needs 900 kg of feed, costing 54000 taka at 60 taka a kilo.
Common questions
Why does the feeding rate matter so much?
Feed is the biggest recurring cost in pond culture, and even a half percent change in the daily rate moves the total feed bill sharply.
