Formula

averageGlucose = (r1 + r2 + r3 + r4) / 4; estimatedHba1c = (averageGlucose + 46.7) / 28.7

How the calculation works

Enter four blood glucose readings in mg/dL, ideally taken at similar times across different days.

The tool adds the readings and divides by four to get the average glucose level.

It applies the standard conversion of adding 46.7 and dividing by 28.7 to estimate the HbA1c percentage.

When to use it

Worked example

Readings of 110, 130, 120 and 140 mg/dL average 125 mg/dL. The estimated HbA1c is (125 + 46.7) / 28.7, which is about 5.98 percent.

Average glucose 125.00
Estimated HbA1c (%) 6.00

Common questions

How accurate is the estimated HbA1c from readings?

It is only an estimate, and it is most useful when the readings are spread across different times of day, since a lab test is the confirmed measure.
