Figures are computed on your device; nothing is sent anywhere.

Formula

dailyDoseMg = weight * dosePerKg; dosePerAdminMg = dailyDoseMg / dosesPerDay

How the calculation works

Enter the child's weight in kilograms, which is the value doctors use when they prescribe by mg/kg rather than by age.

Enter the dose per kilogram from the prescription and the number of times the medicine is given each day.

The tool multiplies weight by dose per kilogram to get the daily total in milligrams, then divides by the number of doses to get each single dose.

Common mistakes

When to use it

Worked example

For a 20 kg child with a dose of 15 mg/kg given 3 times a day, the daily total is 300 mg and each dose is 100 mg.

Daily dose (mg) 300.00
Dose per intake (mg) 100.00

Common questions

Does this tell me how many millilitres to give?

No, it gives milligrams, and you must convert to millilitres using the concentration on the bottle label, which states how many mg are in each ml.
