Formula

expectedHeightCm = 75 + 6.5 * age; expectedWeightKg = 2 * (age + 4); range = expected value -15% to +15%

How the calculation works

Enter the child's age in whole years and select the gender, because the tool keeps the same simple growth rule for both but records which one applies.

The tool estimates expected height as 75 plus 6.5 times the age in centimetres, and expected weight as twice the age plus four in kilograms.

It then builds a normal range of plus or minus 15 percent around each expected value and tells you whether the entered height and weight sit inside it.

Common mistakes

When to use it

Worked example

For a 5-year-old boy who is 108 cm tall and weighs 17 kg, the expected height is 107.5 cm with a range of about 91.4 to 123.6 cm, and the expected weight is 18 kg with a range of about 15.3 to 20.7 kg.

Expected height (cm) 107.50
Expected weight (kg) 18.00

Common questions

Is this a substitute for a doctor's growth chart?

No, it is a quick estimate for reassurance and early noticing, and any persistent concern should be checked by a paediatrician using standard growth charts.
