Formula
How the calculation works
The planner multiplies the monthly income by each category share and then divides the result by one hundred.
Food, housing, education, health and savings are calculated independently so one change does not disturb the others.
The total line adds the five amounts and should match the income when the shares sum to one hundred percent.
Common mistakes
- Letting the category shares add up to more than one hundred percent, which makes the total exceed the actual income.
- Forgetting fixed costs such as loan repayments, which are not among the five categories and quietly drain the budget.
When to use it
- Households use it to agree on monthly spending limits before the salary is spent on unplanned items.
- It also helps check whether the chosen percentages add up to the whole income or leave a gap.
Worked example
With an income of 50000 taka and shares of 30, 25, 15, 10 and 20 percent, you get food 15000, housing 12500, education 7500, health 5000, savings 10000 and a total of 50000 taka.
Common questions
What if my percentages do not add up to 100?
The total will differ from your income, so you can adjust any category share until the sum reaches one hundred percent.
