Formula
How the calculation works
The cost per parcel is the base rate plus the weight charge plus any extra fee.
Multiplying by the number of parcels gives the total shipping bill.
Because the base rate is fixed, the average cost per parcel falls as parcels share one booking.
Common mistakes
- Using the same weight for every parcel when real parcels differ, which mis-prices the bill.
- Forgetting extra fees like COD or return charges, which add per parcel.
When to use it
- Use it to estimate a courier bill before shipping a batch of parcels.
- It is not a courier's quote; rates and surcharges vary by provider and zone.
Worked example
Sending 10 parcels of 2 kg with a 60 base, 20 per kg and 10 extra gives 110 per parcel and 1100 in total.
Common questions
How is weight charged?
Couriers usually charge a base rate plus a rate for every kilogram of the parcel.
Are all parcels the same price?
Only if the weight is the same, since heavier parcels cost more on the per-kilogram rate.
