How the calculation works

The calculator divides the total crop harvested in kilograms by the land area in bigha to get the yield per bigha.

It multiplies that by three, since one acre in Bangladesh is about three bigha, to give the yield per acre.

The total harvested weight is then multiplied by the price per kilogram to give the revenue from the crop.

Common mistakes

Mixing up bigha and decimal, since one bigha is thirty-three decimals and using the wrong unit distorts every figure.
Forgetting the cost of seed, fertiliser and labour, because a high yield does not guarantee profit if the growing cost is also high.

When to use it

Farmers use it to compare the yield of one plot against another and decide which seed or fertiliser works better.
Landowners use it to work out the expected income from a leased plot before agreeing on the crop share.

Worked example

With 1500 kilograms of paddy from 3 bigha of land, the yield is 500 kilograms per bigha, which is 1500 kilograms per acre, and at 30 taka per kilogram the total revenue is 45000 taka.

How many decimals are in one bigha?
