Formula

drillingCost = depthFeet * drillingRatePerFoot; casingCost = depthFeet * casingRatePerFoot; totalCost = drillingCost + casingCost + pumpCost

How the calculation works

A deep tube well has two per-foot costs that stack up, drilling through the soil and installing casing pipe down the same depth, so depth drives most of the bill.

On top of that comes the pump set, which is a fixed price independent of depth, so it matters most for shallow wells and least for very deep ones.

Separating the three lines lets a farmer see whether negotiating the drilling rate or the pipe rate saves more for the planned depth.

Common mistakes

When to use it

Worked example

For a well 850 feet deep with drilling at 180 BDT per foot, casing at 260 BDT per foot and a pump of 45,000 BDT, drilling is 153,000 BDT, casing is 221,000 BDT and the total is 419,000 BDT.

Drilling cost (BDT) 153,000.00
Casing cost (BDT) 221,000.00
Total cost ৳419,000.00

Common questions

Why do drilling and casing rates rise with the depth of the well?

Both charges are quoted per foot, so a deeper well needs more pipe and more drilling time, and the two costs grow in step with every extra foot.
