Formula
How the calculation works
The calculator subtracts the free weight allowance from the parcel weight and keeps only the amount above the allowance.
It multiplies that extra weight by the per kilogram fee and adds the base fee to get the weight part of the charge.
The distance fee is then added so the total reflects both how heavy and how far the order has to travel.
Common mistakes
- Charging the per kilogram fee on the full weight instead of only the weight above the free allowance.
- Ignoring the distance fee entirely, which leaves long distance orders undercharged and unprofitable.
When to use it
- Online sellers use it to set a fair delivery charge for each order instead of guessing a flat amount.
- Shops use it to explain to buyers why a heavier or farther order costs more to deliver than a light one nearby.
Worked example
With a base fee of 60 taka, a free allowance of 1 kilogram, 20 taka per extra kilogram, a 3 kilogram parcel and a 30 taka distance fee, the weight fee is 40 taka and the delivery charge is 130 taka.
Common questions
What is the free weight allowance?
It is the weight included in the base fee, so a parcel up to that weight pays only the base fee and any weight above it pays extra.
