Formula
How the calculation works
Revenue is the delivery charge times orders, and the cost is the courier plus packaging per order.
The profit is revenue minus that cost, and the margin shows whether delivery is a profit line or a hidden loss.
If the courier cost exceeds the charge, every order loses money on delivery alone.
Common mistakes
- Charging below the courier cost to look competitive, which turns every sale into a small loss.
- Forgetting packaging and fuel surcharges, which quietly raise the real delivery cost.
When to use it
- Use it to set a delivery charge that at least covers the courier and packaging.
- It is not a full pricing tool; product cost and profit are separate.
Worked example
Charging 80 on 200 orders with 50 courier and 10 packing gives revenue 16000, cost 12000 and a 4000 profit.
Common questions
Why do many sellers lose on delivery?
A charge below the courier plus packing cost turns every order into a small loss.
Should packaging be included?
Yes, boxes and tape are a real per-order cost that the delivery charge must cover.
