Formula

exciseDuty = slab on net asset value (crore): up to 3 = 0; 3 to 10 = 20000; 10 to 20 = 50000; 20 to 30 = 100000; 30 to 40 = 150000; 40 to 50 = 200000; above 50 = 350000). surchargePercent = net asset 3 to 10 crore = 10; 10 to 20 crore = 20; above 20 crore = 30; otherwise 0; surcharge = incomeTaxPayable * surchargePercent / 100; total = exciseDuty + surcharge

How the calculation works

The tool looks at the net asset value in crore and picks the matching slab to get the fixed excise duty amount.

It then finds the surcharge percentage from the same net asset value, with higher assets carrying a higher surcharge rate.

Finally it multiplies the income tax payable by that surcharge rate and adds the excise duty to return the total.

Common mistakes

When to use it

Worked example

A net asset value of 5 crore with income tax of 200000 taka falls in the 3 to 10 crore slab, so excise duty is 20000, surcharge is 10 percent (20000) and the total is 40000 taka.

Excise duty 15,000.00
Surcharge (%) 0.00
Surcharge 0.00
Total ৳15,000.00

Common questions

Is excise duty based on income or on net asset value?

It is based on net asset value, so it applies even if your taxable income is modest but your property and savings cross the slab.
