Family Visa Income Threshold Calculator
Check whether your monthly income meets the threshold for a family visa, including the extra needed for each dependant.

Formula
How the calculation works
Enter the base monthly income the family visa requires, your actual monthly income and the number of dependants.
The tool adds a fixed income amount for each dependant to the base threshold to get the total required income.
It subtracts your income from that figure and labels the result eligible or not eligible.
Common mistakes
- Applying the base threshold only, because each spouse or child raises the income the sponsor must show.
- Showing irregular freelance income without averaging, since visa officers usually want a steady monthly figure over several months.
When to use it
- Use it before a family visa application to confirm the income evidence you must provide.
- Use it to see how adding a child changes the income threshold you must meet.
Worked example
A base threshold of 2,500 plus 400 for one dependant gives a required income of 2,900. With a monthly income of 2,600 the gap is 300, so the applicant is not eligible.
Common questions
Why does each dependant raise the income threshold?
A spouse or child adds to the household cost, so the visa rule requires the sponsor to show a higher income for every dependant included.
