Formula
How the calculation works
The calculator adds the five cost lines of fingerlings, feed, lime, labour and other spending into a single total cost figure for the cycle.
It then subtracts that total cost from the sale revenue of the harvested fish to work out the profit or loss of the pond.
Every amount is entered in Bangladeshi taka so the result matches the local market prices you actually pay and receive.
Common mistakes
- Leaving out labour or lime because they are paid in small amounts hides real spending and makes the pond look more profitable than it is.
- Using last season's sale price without checking the current market rate can turn a planned profit into an actual loss at harvest time.
When to use it
- Use it before stocking a pond to check whether the planned feed and fingerling budget can still leave a margin at the expected harvest price.
- Use it after harvest to compare the real cost of the cycle with the profit, so the next stocking plan is built on actual numbers.
Worked example
With fingerlings at 20,000 BDT, feed at 45,000 BDT, lime at 5,000 BDT, labour at 15,000 BDT and other costs at 5,000 BDT, the total cost is 90,000 BDT. Selling the harvest for 120,000 BDT leaves a profit of 30,000 BDT.
Common questions
Does this calculator include pond lease or land rent for the cycle?
No. It covers fingerlings, feed, lime, labour and other running costs, so add any annual lease or land rent into the other cost field.
