Formula
How the calculation works
The calculator multiplies the income by the tax rate to get the tax owed on that payment.
It then adds the buffer percentage on top of the tax to reach the set-aside, and subtracts the tax from income for the net figure.
An income of 100000 with 15 percent tax and a 10 percent buffer gives a set-aside of 16500 and net income of 85000.
Common mistakes
- Spending the full payment and planning to save later rarely works, because the tax bill arrives long after the money is gone.
- Ignoring the buffer leaves no room for late fees or a higher slab when total yearly income crosses a threshold.
When to use it
- Use it to move the right amount into a tax savings account each time a client pays you.
- Use it to see your true take-home income before you commit to monthly personal spending.
Worked example
With an income of 100000 taka, a tax rate of 15 percent and a 10 percent buffer, the set-aside is 16500 taka and the net income is 85000 taka.
Common questions
Why should you set aside more than just the tax amount?
The extra buffer covers penalties, a higher tax slab on your yearly total, or advance tax, so you are not caught short at filing time.
