Formula
How the calculation works
Enter the assessed annual value of the property and the holding tax rate the municipality applies to it.
The tool multiplies the annual value by the holding rate to get the holding tax, following the split used in municipal rules.
It adds the fixed conservancy and lighting charges to show the total municipal tax payable for the year.
Common mistakes
- Confusing the municipal holding rate with the city corporation's 12 percent, because a pourashava often uses a lower rate.
- Leaving out the conservancy and lighting charges, since these fixed amounts are added on top of the value-based holding tax.
When to use it
- Use it to check the municipal tax bill a pourashava or city office issues for your property each year.
- Use it to plan the annual tax you must keep ready for a rented or owned building before the demand notice arrives.
Worked example
An assessed annual value of Tk 40,000 at a 7 percent holding rate gives Tk 2,800. Adding Tk 600 for conservancy and Tk 400 for lighting makes the total Tk 3,800.
Common questions
What makes up the municipal tax on a property?
The municipal tax is the value-based holding tax plus a fixed conservancy charge for waste services and a fixed lighting charge for street lights.
