Poultry Feed Conversion Calculator
Work out the feed conversion ratio of a poultry batch and the feed cost of every kilogram of weight gained.

Formula
How the calculation works
The calculator divides the feed eaten by the live weight gained to get the feed conversion ratio.
It multiplies the feed eaten by the price per kilogram to find the total spent on feed for the batch.
The cost of each kilogram of gain is then found by multiplying the FCR by the price of one kilogram of feed.
Common mistakes
- Using the dressed weight instead of the live weight when computing the ratio, which makes the FCR look worse than it is.
- Forgetting mortality in the flock, since dead birds still ate feed and that feed is part of the true cost of the batch.
When to use it
- Poultry farmers use it to check whether a batch is converting feed efficiently or whether the feed or breed needs review.
- Farmers use the cost per kilogram of gain to compare two feed brands at different prices on an equal footing.
Worked example
With 100 kilograms of feed giving 40 kilograms of weight gain, the FCR is 2.5, the total feed cost at 55 taka per kilogram is 5500 taka and the cost of each kilogram of gain is 137.5 taka.
Common questions
What is a good FCR for broilers?
A commercial broiler batch commonly reaches an FCR of around 1.6 to 1.8, while a figure above 2 suggests inefficient feeding or a health problem.
