Formula
How the calculation works
The monthly cost adds rent, salaries, utilities, supplies and anything else.
Dividing that by monthly customers gives the cost of serving each one, the number the average ticket must beat.
Monthly profit is the customers times the average ticket, minus the monthly cost.
Common mistakes
- Comparing the average ticket with the cost per customer but forgetting tax and payment fees.
- Counting bookings instead of customers, which understates the cost per person.
When to use it
- Use it to check whether a salon's prices cover its real monthly cost.
- It is not a tax return; it uses the costs you enter.
Worked example
Rent 15000, salaries 30000, utilities 5000, supplies 8000 and other 4000 give a monthly cost of 62000, which is 155 taka per customer at 400 customers, and profit is 38000 at a 250 taka average ticket.
Common questions
Which costs should I include?
Rent, staff salaries, utilities, supplies and any other recurring cost. One-off equipment purchases can be spread over months.
How is cost per customer found?
