Seed Rate Calculator
Works out how much seed a field needs from the sowing rate per acre and what that seed costs at the buying price.

Formula
How the calculation works
The seed weight multiplies the area in acres by the recommended sowing rate for each acre of that crop.
Multiplying that weight by the price per kilogram gives the seed cost, which is the main input cost at sowing time.
For 2 acres at 8 kg per acre the field needs 16 kg, and at 60 taka a kilogram the seed bill is 960 taka.
Common mistakes
- Using the seeding rate of a different crop or variety applies the wrong density and spoils the plant population.
- Forgetting to add a germination margin on older seed can leave the field thinner than the recommended rate intends.
When to use it
- Use it before sowing so you buy the right weight of seed instead of over or under ordering.
- Use it to compare the seed cost of two varieties when one has a higher price but also a different sowing rate.
Worked example
Two acres at 8 kg of seed per acre need 16 kg, which at 60 taka a kg costs 960 taka.
Common questions
Should I increase the rate for older seed?
Older seed often germinates less reliably, so many farmers raise the rate slightly to reach the intended plant population, while fresh certified seed can use the standard rate.
