Formula
How the calculation works
The calculator subtracts the yearly inflation rate from the nominal staking APY to find the real yield.
It converts that real yield into a decimal and compounds it over the number of years you hold.
It multiplies the staked principal by that growth factor to show the future value in today's terms.
Common mistakes
- Reading the nominal APY as profit and ignoring that inflation quietly eats a large part of it.
- Compounding the nominal rate and then subtracting inflation, which gives a higher and wrong answer.
When to use it
- Use it to check whether a staking rate actually grows your buying power once inflation is taken out.
- Use it to compare two chains where one advertises a much higher rate that inflation may erase.
Worked example
Staking at 12 percent APY with 6 percent inflation gives a real yield of 6 percent, so 100,000 staked for 3 years becomes 100,000 x (1.06)^3 = 119,101.6.
Common questions
Why subtract inflation from the staking rate?
Real yield shows growth in buying power, and a nominal rate below inflation actually shrinks what your crypto can buy.
