Utility Security Deposit Calculator
Estimates the security deposit a utility asks for a new connection by multiplying your average monthly bill by the number of months required.

Formula
How the calculation works
Choose the connection type, which tells you whether this is an electricity, gas or water deposit you are estimating.
Enter the average monthly bill you expect and the number of months of deposit the utility requires for your connection.
The tool multiplies the bill by the months for the deposit and marks the whole figure as refundable, since a security deposit is returned unless you owe dues.
Common mistakes
- Treating the deposit as a fee, when it is actually refundable and only deducted against any unpaid final bill.
- Estimating from an unusually high winter or summer bill, which inflates the deposit you expect to pay on a normal connection.
When to use it
- Use it before applying for a new electricity, gas or water connection so the deposit does not come as a surprise.
- Use it when moving out to confirm how much you should get back once the final bill is settled.
Worked example
With an average monthly bill of 2500 Taka and a deposit of 3 months, the deposit is 7500 Taka and the whole amount is refundable when the connection closes.
Common questions
Is the whole deposit returned when I close the connection?
Yes, the deposit is refundable and is returned after the final bill and any dues are settled, so keep the receipt safe until that is done.
