Figures are computed on your device; nothing is sent anywhere.

Formula

effectiveBrick = (9.5 + mortarJoint) * (4.5 + mortarJoint) * (2.75 + mortarJoint); wallVolume = wallLength * 12 * wallHeight * 12 * wallThickness; bricks = Math.ceil(wallVolume / effectiveBrick); bricksWithWastage = Math.ceil(bricks * (1 + wastage / 100))

How the calculation works

The calculator builds the volume of the wall from its length, height and thickness, all measured in feet and inches.

It then divides that volume by the space one brick occupies once a mortar joint is added around it.

A wastage allowance is applied at the end so broken or cut bricks do not leave the wall short.

Common mistakes

When to use it

Worked example

For a wall 10 feet long, 10 feet high and 5 inches thick with a 0.4 inch mortar joint, the wall volume is 72000 cubic inches, you need 472 bricks and 496 bricks with 5 percent wastage.

Wall volume (m³) 1.18
Bricks needed 124.00
Bricks with wastage 131.00

Common questions

What is the standard brick size in Bangladesh?

The common brick in Bangladesh is about 9.5 inches long, 4.5 inches wide and 2.75 inches high, and a mortar joint of roughly 0.4 inch is added around it.
