Building Material Estimator for Cement, Rod and Sand
Gives a quick estimate of cement bags, steel rods and sand needed for a given volume of concrete, using per-cubic-metre rates you can adjust.

Formula
How the calculation works
Enter the total volume of concrete you will pour in cubic metres, which is the slab area multiplied by its thickness.
Enter the cement bags, steel kilograms and sand cubic feet that one cubic metre needs for your chosen mix and design.
The tool multiplies each per-cubic-metre rate by the volume to give the cement bags, steel weight and sand quantity.
Common mistakes
- Using one fixed rate for every mix, when a richer mix needs more cement and heavier reinforcement needs more steel per cubic metre.
- Forgetting a wastage margin, since a small allowance of five to ten percent covers spillage and uneven ground.
When to use it
- Use it to place a rough order of cement, rod and sand before a small slab or column pour so the site does not run short mid-work.
- Use it to sanity-check a contractor's material list, since a sudden gap between their figure and this estimate is worth questioning.
Worked example
For 10 cubic metres of concrete with 8 bags of cement, 100 kg of steel and 15 cubic feet of sand per cubic metre, you need about 80 bags of cement, 1000 kg of steel and 150 cubic feet of sand.
Common questions
Are these figures exact?
No, they are thumb-rule estimates based on the rates you enter, and a structural engineer should confirm the real quantities for load-bearing work.
