Calories Burned Calculator
Estimates the calories burned from an activity using its MET value, your weight and the minutes.

Formula
How the calculation works
The formula uses the MET value of the activity, your body weight and the minutes.
Calories burned per minute are MET times 3.5 times weight, divided by 200.
Multiplying by the minutes gives the total, so a higher MET or longer time burns more.
Common mistakes
- Using the MET of a hard session for an easy one, which overstates the burn.
- Treating the number as exact: it is an estimate that varies by person and effort.
When to use it
- Use it to estimate how many calories an activity burns.
- It is not a medical measure; it is a standard estimate, not a measurement of you.
Worked example
70 kilograms doing a 6 MET activity for 30 minutes burns about 220.5 calories.
Common questions
What is a MET?
MET is a measure of activity intensity; sitting is about 1, brisk walking about 4 and running about 8.
How accurate is this?
It is a good estimate, but real burn varies with fitness, pace and body composition.
