Granite Countertop Calculator
Find how much granite or stone a countertop needs and what it will cost.

Formula
How the calculation works
The area is length times width, and adding the wastage percentage covers the cuts and offcuts a counter always needs.
Multiplying the wastage-included area by the rate per square foot gives the material cost.
Wastage matters more on small counters, where a single offcut can be a large share of the slab.
Common mistakes
- Measuring only the visible top and forgetting the front edge and backsplash, which add area.
- Using zero wastage for a stone with veining, where matching the pattern wastes more material.
When to use it
- Use it to price a granite or marble counter before ordering the slab.
- It is not a fabrication quote; cutting, polishing and fitting are usually charged separately.
Worked example
An 8 ft by 2.5 ft countertop with 10% cutting wastage at 450 per sq ft costs 9,900.
Common questions
Why add wastage for a countertop?
Cuts for a sink or hob and edge trimming waste stone, so 8 to 12 percent extra is normal.
Is granite priced per square foot or per slab?
Most shops quote per square foot but sell whole slabs, so the slab size can raise the real price.
