How the calculation works
The calculator multiplies the number of bathrooms by the cost of fixtures in one bathroom to get the fixtures cost.
It adds the pipe cost, the smaller fittings such as taps and traps, and the plumber labour charge to that figure.
Dividing the total by the number of bathrooms gives the per bathroom cost, which is useful when comparing buildings.
Common mistakes
- Counting only the visible fixtures and forgetting pipes and concealed fittings, which are a large part of the real cost.
- Leaving out the plumber labour charge, since fitting and sealing each fixture takes skilled time on site.
When to use it
- Homeowners use it to plan the plumbing budget of a new flat before buying commodes, basins and showers.
- Contractors use it to prepare a per bathroom figure that can be quoted to a client at the start of the work.
Worked example
For 2 bathrooms at 15000 taka of fixtures each, the fixtures cost is 30000 taka, and with 4000 taka pipes, 2500 taka fittings and 5000 taka labour the total is 41500 taka, which is 20750 taka per bathroom.
