Formula
How the calculation works
The calculator subtracts what you have already saved from the estimated Hajj cost to find the remaining gap.
It divides that gap by the total number of months in your chosen period, giving the amount to save each month.
Multiplying the monthly figure back by the number of months confirms the total that will be accumulated.
Common mistakes
- Estimating the Hajj cost too low, since package prices rise and the gap then needs a larger monthly saving.
- Choosing a saving period that is too short, which pushes the monthly amount beyond what your income can support.
When to use it
- Use it as soon as you start planning Hajj so the monthly figure is small and easy to keep up.
- Use it to compare saving over three years against five years and decide which monthly amount you can sustain.
Worked example
Hajj cost 600000, current saving 150000, 3 years: gap 450000, monthly saving 12500 and total saved 450000 taka.
Common questions
Should I include rising prices?
It is wise to add a margin to the estimated Hajj cost, because package prices increase over time and the monthly target would otherwise fall short.
