Kaffara and Fidya Calculator
Work out the cost of feeding sixty poor people for kaffara and the cost of one meal per missed fast for fidya.

Formula
How the calculation works
The calculator multiplies the cost of one person's meal by sixty to produce the kaffara amount.
For fidya it multiplies the same meal cost by the number of fasts that were missed.
Both figures are shown together so the person can see which obligation applies to their situation.
Common mistakes
- Confusing kaffara with fidya, since kaffara feeds sixty people while fidya feeds one person per missed fast.
- Using a meal cost far below the local market rate, which makes the calculated amount too small to be valid.
When to use it
- People who broke a fast without a valid excuse use it to estimate the kaffara they owe.
- Those who cannot fast because of age or illness use it to plan the fidya for each missed day.
Worked example
With a meal cost of 100 taka and 30 missed fasts, kaffara is 6000 taka and fidya is 3000 taka.
Common questions
Who should pay fidya instead of kaffara?
Fidya applies to those who cannot fast at all because of lasting illness or old age, while kaffara applies after a deliberately broken fast.
