Formula

goldValue = goldGrams * pricePerGram; nisabValue = nisabGrams * pricePerGram; zakatDue = goldGrams >= nisabGrams ? goldValue * zakatRate/100 : 0

How the calculation works

Zakat on gold is a wealth levy, so the metal is first converted into money at the day's market rate rather than counted by weight alone.

The weight is then compared with the gold nisab of about 87.48 grams, because zakat becomes obligatory only once the holding crosses that threshold.

If the nisab is met, two and a half percent of the total gold value is due, and this calculator reports zero when the weight falls short.

Common mistakes

When to use it

Worked example

With 92.5 grams at 12000 taka a gram, the gold is worth 1110000 taka, the nisab is 1049760 taka and the zakat due is 27750 taka.

Gold value ৳1,110,000.00
Nisab value 1,049,760.00
Zakat due 27,750.00

Common questions

What is the gold nisab in grams?

The gold nisab is seven and a half tola, which is about 87.48 grams, and zakat only becomes due when your gold reaches that weight.
