How the calculation works
Enter the trip distance in kilometres as shown on a map for the route you will take.
Enter the fare per kilometre and the base fare that applies, which you can take from the published meter rate.
The tool multiplies the distance by the per-kilometre rate to get the distance charge and adds the base fare for the total.
Common mistakes
- Forgetting that the base fare already covers the first part of the trip, so adding it separately can overstate a very short ride.
- Using an out-of-date per-kilometre rate, since fares are revised and an old figure gives a misleading total.
When to use it
- Use it to check the fare before you set off, so you have a fair figure in mind when the meter or the driver quotes a price.
- Use it to compare the cost of a CNG ride with a bus or a ride-sharing car for the same trip.
Worked example
For a 10 km ride at 12 Taka per km with a 40 Taka base fare, the distance charge is 120 Taka and the total fare is 160 Taka.
Common questions
Does the total include waiting time?
No, it only covers the base fare and the distance charge, so add any waiting or extra charges agreed with the driver.
