How the calculation works
Enter how many cylinders your household gets through in a month, using a decimal such as 1.5 if a refill lasts more than a fortnight.
Enter the price you pay for one refill, which for the common 12 kg cylinder is usually quoted per full cylinder at the dealer.
The tool multiplies the monthly cylinders by the refill price for the monthly cost and then by the number of months you enter for the yearly figure.
Common mistakes
- Confusing the cylinder weight with the price, so putting 12 as the price when 12 kg is the size and the price is nearer 1400 Taka.
- Ignoring the occasional stove or regulator cost, which is not part of the refill but still belongs in your yearly fuel spend.
When to use it
- Use it to compare LPG with piped gas or electricity, since knowing the annual LPG bill is the only fair base for the comparison.
- Use it to set a monthly household budget that keeps cooking fuel separate from other utilities.
Worked example
If your household uses 1.5 cylinders a month at 1400 Taka per refill, the monthly cost is 2100 Taka and over 12 months it is 25200 Taka.
Common questions
Should I count the cylinder deposit in this cost?
No, the refundable deposit on the cylinder is returned when you give it back, so it belongs in your cash flow but not in the recurring fuel cost shown here.
