How the calculation works
Enter the price of the CNG kit including installation in Taka as quoted by the workshop.
Enter what you now spend on petrol in a month and what you expect to spend on CNG for the same running.
The tool subtracts the CNG figure from the petrol figure for the monthly saving and divides the kit cost by that saving to get the payback in months.
Common mistakes
- Forgetting the cylinder test, inspection and registration fees, which belong in the kit cost because they are needed to use CNG legally.
- Assuming the petrol saving of a full month when the car also runs on petrol, so the true monthly saving is smaller than shown.
When to use it
- Use it before converting a car to CNG to see whether the kit cost is recovered within the time you expect to keep the vehicle.
- Use it to compare quotes, because a cheap kit with poor mileage can take longer to pay back than a costlier efficient one.
Worked example
A kit costing 80000 Taka with petrol at 12000 Taka a month and CNG at 5000 Taka a month saves 7000 Taka a month and pays back in about 11.4 months.
Common questions
Is the payback counted in months or in years?
The tool returns the payback in months, which is easier to compare with how long you plan to keep the car before selling it.
