Formula

gradePoint per subject from marks band (80-100: 5.00, 70-79: 4.00, 60-69: 3.50, 50-59: 3.00, 40-49: 2.00, 33-39: 1.00, below 33: 0.00); gpa = average of subject points

How the calculation works

The Bangladesh education boards map a raw mark to a grade point through fixed bands, from 5.00 for 80 marks and above down to 0.00 below 33.

Each of your five marks is converted to its grade point, and those points are added and divided by five to give the GPA on the 5.00 scale.

Marks of 85, 78, 92, 68 and 74 become 5.00, 4.00, 5.00, 3.50 and 4.00, which total 21.50 and average to a GPA of 4.30.

When to use it

Worked example

With marks 85, 78, 92, 68 and 74 the grade points are 5.00, 4.00, 5.00, 3.50 and 4.00, giving a GPA of 4.30.

GPA 4.3
Total points 21.50

Common questions

What happens if one subject is below 33 marks?

That subject scores 0.00 and the result is normally counted as failed, so you must pass every subject before the GPA average is treated as a valid pass result.
