Formula

points: A+ = 5.00, A = 4.00, A- = 3.50, B = 3.00, C = 2.00, D = 1.00, F = 0.00; totalPoints = sum of subject points; gpa = totalPoints / subjectCount; if any F then gpa = 0.00

How the calculation works

Each letter grade is first converted into its official point value, from A+ at 5.00 down to F at 0.00.

The six subject points are added together into a single total point figure.

That total is divided by the number of subjects, and any F in a subject forces the GPA to 0.00.

When to use it

Worked example

Grades A+, A, A-, B, C and A+ give points 5.00 + 4.00 + 3.50 + 3.00 + 2.00 + 5.00 = 22.50, so the GPA is 22.50 / 6 = 3.75.

GPA 5.0
Total points 30.00
