How the calculation works
Enter the yearly tuition fee and the yearly other charges in the foreign currency your university quotes, such as USD, GBP or AUD.
Add the monthly accommodation and monthly food costs, which the tool multiplies by 12 to turn them into a full-year figure.
Give the current exchange rate in Taka per one unit of that foreign currency, and the tool returns both the foreign total and the Taka total.
Common mistakes
- Forgetting that accommodation and food are monthly figures, so entering a yearly value makes the estimate about twelve times too large.
- Using an old exchange rate, because the Taka rate moves and even a small change shifts the final budget by thousands of Taka.
When to use it
- Use it before you apply so you can compare the true annual cost of universities in different countries on one common Taka scale.
- Use it to set a realistic savings or education-loan target instead of budgeting for tuition alone and being surprised later.
Worked example
With tuition 10000 USD, living 800 USD per month, food 300 USD per month, other 1500 USD per year and a rate of 120 BDT per USD, the yearly foreign total is 24700 USD and the cost in Taka is 29,64,000 BDT.
Common questions
Does the tool include visa and travel costs?
The other yearly costs field is meant for visa fees, insurance, flights and books, so add those there to get a fuller picture of the annual spend.
