How the calculation works
Enter the full cost of your study for the period, including tuition, books, travel and living expenses.
Enter what your family can contribute and what you expect to earn from part-time work over the same period.
The tool subtracts both from the total cost for the need, then divides by the number of months for the monthly figure.
Common mistakes
- Overstating part-time income, since a job that clashes with classes rarely pays as much as the hours suggest.
- Leaving out one-off costs such as a laptop, admission fee or deposit, which then land as an unbudgeted gap in the same period.
When to use it
- Use it before writing a scholarship application so the amount you request is tied to a clear gap rather than a round number.
- Use it to compare offers, since a smaller grant plus more part-time work can cover the same need as a larger grant alone.
Worked example
With a total cost of 400000 Taka, a family contribution of 150000 Taka and part-time income of 50000 Taka over 12 months, the need is 200000 Taka and the monthly need is about 16667 Taka.
Common questions
Should I include travel home in the cost?
Yes, add the trips you will realistically make, because travel home is a real cost of studying away and omitting it understates the support you need.
