Figures are computed on your device; nothing is sent anywhere.

Formula

r = annualRate/100/12; n = years*12; emi = principal * r / (1 - (1 + r)^-n); totalPayment = emi * n; totalInterest = totalPayment - principal

How the calculation works

The calculator converts the annual interest rate into a monthly rate and the loan term from years into months.

It applies the standard amortisation formula so that every instalment covers both interest and part of the principal.

Multiplying the instalment by the number of months gives the total paid, and subtracting the principal leaves the interest.

Common mistakes

When to use it

Worked example

A 500000 taka loan at 9 percent over 5 years gives an EMI of about 10380 taka, a total payment of 622770 and 122770 taka in interest.

Monthly instalment 10,379.18
Total payment 622,750.66
Total interest 122,750.66

Common questions

Does a longer term reduce the interest?

No, a longer term lowers the monthly instalment but increases the total interest, because you borrow the money for more months.
