How the calculation works

The calculator multiplies the per kilometre rate by the distance and adds the base fare to get the fare for one passenger.

It rounds that amount to the nearest taka, since bus fares are charged in whole taka after the recent revision.

The per passenger fare is then multiplied by the number of passengers to give the total fare for the group.

Common mistakes

Forgetting the base fare and using only the distance rate, which understates short journeys where the base dominates.
Using the road distance instead of the fare stage distance, since buses often charge by stage and not by exact kilometres.

When to use it

Commuters use it to check the expected fare before boarding, especially on routes where the conductor quotes a different figure.
Families and groups use it to split the cost of a journey fairly among everyone travelling together.

Worked example

With a base fare of 30 taka, a per kilometre rate of 2.5 taka, a distance of 20 kilometres and 2 passengers, each passenger pays 80 taka and the total fare is 160 taka.

Common questions

Why round each passenger fare?

Buses do not charge fractions of a taka, so the fare is rounded to the nearest whole taka before multiplying by the passenger count.
