How the calculation works
The calculator starts with the base fee that covers the first kilogram of the parcel weight.
It then adds the extra weight fee for every kilogram beyond the first, counting only the whole fraction that exceeds one kilogram.
Finally it adds the cash on delivery commission, which is the collected amount multiplied by the commission percentage and divided by one hundred.
Common mistakes
- Forgetting the cash on delivery commission, which the courier deducts from the money collected on your behalf.
- Rounding the weight down, since most couriers charge on the actual or volumetric weight, whichever is greater.
When to use it
- Online sellers use it to quote a delivery charge to buyers before confirming an order.
- Small businesses use it to compare the total cost of cash on delivery against prepaid delivery with the same courier.
Worked example
With a base fee of 60 taka, 20 taka per extra kilogram, a 3 kilogram parcel and a 5000 taka cash on delivery amount at 1 percent, the weight charge is 40 taka and the total courier charge is 150 taka.
