How the calculation works
The calculator multiplies the per kilometre rate by the distance to get the distance charge for the run.
It then adds the base fare, the loading charge for labour and the toll paid on the route to that distance charge.
The result is the total truck fare, and the distance charge is shown separately so each part of the bill can be checked.
Common mistakes
- Forgetting loading and unloading labour, which is charged separately from the fare and can add a large amount.
- Ignoring the return trip and waiting charge, since many truck owners bill for the empty return and for hours spent waiting.
When to use it
- Traders and builders use it to compare quotes from several truck owners before booking a trip.
- Families moving house use it to budget the cost of carrying furniture across a district with loading and toll included.
Worked example
With a base fare of 2000 taka, 50 taka per kilometre over 60 kilometres, a loading charge of 500 taka and a toll of 300 taka, the distance charge is 3000 taka and the total fare is 5800 taka.
Common questions
Is the return trip included?
This estimate covers only the loaded trip, so ask the owner whether an empty return charge applies, because many include it separately.
